Oswald Saavedra, M.D. Orlando Internal Medicine 1315 S. Orange Avenue Suite 3A Orlando, FL 32806 407-423-4680 Oswald Saavedra, M.D. received his doctorate in medicine at Moscow University School of Medicine, Moscow, Russia on 6-30-1969. He completed his internship in the Neurology Department at University Hospital in Moscow, Russia on 12-30-1970. He also served as a rotating intern at North York Branson Hospital in Toronto, Canada from July 1973 until June of 1974. He served as house officer in the Medicine Department at Kurfursten in Bremen, West Germany from July 1971 until June 1972 and senior house officer of medicine at Darlington Memorial Hospital in Darlington, England from July 1972 until June 1973. His residency training was completed in Pathology in Orlando, Florida from July 1974 until July 1975. He also completed a residency program in internal medicine at St. Frances Hospital Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois from August 1977 through July 1980. Dr. Saavedra was received his certification to the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1980. He currently is on the medical staff of the Orlando Regional Medical Center, Sand Lake Hospital, and Lucerne Medical Center. Dr. Saavedra also served as general medical officer in the U.S. Navy at the Orlando Naval Medical Center in Orlando, Florida from August 1974 until July 1977.Currently Dr. Saavedra is president of Orlando Internal Medicine, a private medical practice he established in August 1980. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Orange County Medical Society and serves as the Chairman of their Environmental Committee. Dr. Saavedra also serves on Florida Medical Association’s Section on Environment and Health. He is also a Board member of a local environmental advocacy group, Eco-Action. Other professional organizations of which he is a member is the American Society of Internal Medicine, American Medical Association, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Union of Concerned Scientists, and the Rotary Club of Orlando. For the past eight years Dr. Saavedra has organized a Physicians’ Earth Day Event in conjunction with the Orange County Medical Society that includes a fundraising dinner and symposium. The fundraising dinner has raised support for monthly contributions to Eco-Action and to defer expenses for the symposium. This year due to the generosity of the sponsors, contributions were also made to a land preserve in the City of Winter Park, the Winter Park Live Oak Fund, and a Honduran medical mission project. Dr. Saavedra has personally served as a volunteer on two medical mission trips to Honduras and is planning to travel there again in the near future. Over the years Dr. Saavedra has made numerous presentations related to effects of the environment on human health and global warming
